Whether through big-picture developmental editing or detail-oriented copyediting, I help other writers find their voices and the power of their stories. Together, we dive into their worlds and stories to find the heart and truth of both their stories and themselves as storytellers.
TNT Editing
Editing Is a Conversation
I first experienced the editing process from the client side. When I had the first three books of my Peace of Evon series edited, my editor explained why she made some of the changes she recommended and encouraged me to consider my reasons behind certain decisions and whether they best fit the world and story.
The experience stuck with me as I moved forward and eventually became an editor myself. Though I didn’t understand it at the time, it introduced me to the belief that editing is a conversation—an idea I try to carry into every project I work on.
Whether you still need help defining parts of your world and story or you’re ready to get down to the nitty-gritty of copyediting or formatting, let me be part of the conversation, and we can make your world and story shine.
Editing Services
Below are the specific services I offer, with the hourly rate of each. Don’t see the service you’re looking for? Contact me with the details, and we can discuss how I might be able to help you.
DEVELOPMENTAL CONVERSATIONS ($60/hour)
Sometimes in writing, all we need is someone to listen as we discuss the walls we’ve hit or the plot holes we’ve fallen into and to help us find paths we may not be able to see. Scheduled by the hour, developmental conversations allow me to help you dive deeper into your worlds and stories and guide you along paths you might not be aware of.
Schedule your developmental conversation today!
Want to keep your worlds and stories growing and flowing? Keep yourself accountable with a monthly one-hour developmental conversation for $50/month at www.patreon.com/TheodoreNTinker.
FULL-MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT ($60/hour)
Have you finished a draft and are ready to edit but are unsure where to start? Maybe you’ve gone through rewrites and need a final set of eyes on the piece before you begin the copyediting process.
Wherever you might be in the writing process, a full-manuscript developmental edit can show you where you might need to focus next: plot holes, timeline issues, inconsistencies, points of confusion in need of clarification. Reading through your entire manuscript, I will make note of all of these and more.
Once I’m done, we can schedule a one-to-two-hour Zoom call to discuss the biggest issues I encounter. You receive the final marked-up manuscript and a recording of the Zoom call.

SHORT-PROJECT COPY EDIT ($40/hour or $50/hour rush)
Do you have a short story, article, essay, press release, or another short piece that is ready for final edits?
Are you looking to submit a longer work for publication and want to get the first few chapters into the best shape possible?
Copyediting involves punctuation, grammar, spelling, and ease of understanding. Line editing covers the same but also dives deeper, exploring the flow of the piece and any developmental questions that come up.
Contact me today for a quote and a sample edit.
BOOK FORMATTING ($50/hour)
If you’ve been through copy edits and are self-publishing, then the next step is to get your book formatted for publication. I can format for ebook, paperback, or hardback.
Contact me today to begin the conversation that will bring your book to life.
Beyond the Edits
Fiction Tinker's Guide
Not ready to commit to an editor? The Fiction Tinker’s Guide series provides editing tips on the go. Each guide contains twenty-one tips on a specific topic, including worldbuilding, creatures, fantasy, science fiction, and the mechanics of writing.
Worldbuilding Classes
Through Balance of Seven, I offer regular worldbuilding classes based on my Fiction Tinker’s Guide series. These are scheduled for set dates and recorded so that those who sign up but are unable to attend at the scheduled time may still view the videos later.
Check the calendar to see when the next one might be occurring, or join my newsletter to receive updates.
Want access to monthly classes? For $20/month, you can join monthly worldbuilding classes in which I discuss a specific worldbuilding topic and work directly with each attendee to see how it might be applied to their individual worlds. These classes are scheduled based on the availability of those who wish to attend. If you’re interested, sign up for the $20 tier or higher at www.patreon.com/TheodoreNTinker.
Fiction Tinkers Guild
Want a community of people who enjoy worldbuilding as much as you do? Join the Fiction Tinkers Guild Facebook group for worldbuilding tips and updates on books and events. Plus, many of my Facebook events take place in this group.
Word Splurge
Want a community that can help you get words on the page? Join Word Splurge for three nights of writing each week, plus monthly group get-togethers. Also, join at the $20 tier and get access to Tod’s Thoughts, a weekly group session during which we discuss any questions or topics that arise related to writing or editing. Sessions are recorded, so joining the tier gets you access to past Tod’s Thoughts and any you might not be able to attend.
